Master Gunnery Sergeant Huff enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina in January 1999. Private Huff attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Upon completion, he was assigned the MOS 3381, Cook, and attended Food Service School at Ft. Lee, Virginia. Private Huff was promoted to Private First Class in July 1999 and graduated number two in his class at the end of July with orders to 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Twentynine Palms, California.
In December 1999, Private First-Class Huff was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. January 2000 saw Lance Corporal Huff conduct a turnover with a Sergeant so he could take over the Field Mess responsibilities as well as the responsibilities of Platoon Sergeant. During this time, Lance Corporal Huff assisted the messhall in the A.P. Hill inspection for best messhall in the Marine Corps and was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for helping obtain number one.
In February 2001, Lance Corporal Huff was promoted to the rank Corporal. He continued in his duties as Field Mess NCOIC and Platoon Sergeant attending Company Gunnery Sergeant weekly meetings, tracking section training, and ensuring section medical readiness was up to standards.
In January 2003, Corporal Huff received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his accomplishments with 3rd LAR and executed a lateral move from the cook field into Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) and went on his first deployment to Iraq were he conducted multiple Warfighter Express Service Team (WES-Team) runs to service those not close or local to Diwaniyah. These teams took him to Karbala, Hillah, Najaf, Mahmudiyah, Babylon, Baghdad, and Nasiriyah. In June 2003, Corporal Huff was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
In January 2004, Sergeant Huff executed orders to CLC-36, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni Japan where he was placed into the role of Assistant Store Manager of the Northside 7-day Store. In this capacity, he learned how the Japanese Nationals worked with MCCS as well as gaining the normal store operations since his only experience in his new field was all deployment.
In April 2004, Sergeant Huff participated in support of Cobra Gold in Thailand. In September 2004, Sergeant Huff started his second deployment to Iraq. During this deployment, Sergeant Huff was the Assistant Manager of the Taqqadum Exchange.
In March 2005, Sergeant Huff returned to Iwakuni from deployment and took over responsibilities as the Northside 7-day Store Manager. During this period, he worked to repurpose an old area into a separate area that became an extension of the store. He also conducted 24-hour operations to gather data for the feasibility in the future.
In March 2006, Sergeant Huff deployed for a third time to Iraq this time as the Manager of the Al Qa’im Exchange. During this period, he conducted, scheduled, and executed Warfighter Express Service Team (WES-Team) runs to service members who were not local to Al Qa’im. In July 2006, Sergeant Huff was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In September 2006, Staff Sergeant Huff returned to Iwakuni and then was sent TAD to Recruiters School in January 2007. In April 2007, Staff Sergeant Huff executed orders to Recruiting Station Springfield Massachusetts, Sub-Station Warwick, PCS Providence.
Staff Sergeant Huff was a canvassing recruiter in Providence, Rhode Island until his reassignment as MEPS Liaison in April 2008. In April 2009, Staff Sergeant Huff was reassigned to Officer Selection Assistant in Providence, Rhode Island. In January 2010 Staff Sergeant Huff was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He completed Recruiting Duty successfully in June 2010 and executed orders to CLR-17, Camp Pendleton, California where he assumed the duties of Assistant Manager of the Country Store.
In March 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Huff deployed to Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan and assumed the responsibilities of Warfighter Express Service Team SNCOIC.
In October 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Huff returned to Camp Pendleton and resumed duties as the Assistant Manager of the Country Store. In, January 2012 Gunnery Sergeant Huff attended the Advanced Course. Upon graduation and return to CLR-17, Gunnery Sergeant Huff assumed the duties as Manager of the Las Flores Exchange. In addition to, Gunnery Sergeant Huff was the Platoon Sergeant of the section and attended area meetings working with the Command to provide the best services possible.
In February 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Huff assumed the responsibilities of Retail Operations Chief which included 20+ stores falling under him, conducting inspections of all facilities, and representing the Retail Director when required. He carried out these duties until executing orders July 2014.
In July 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Huff joined H&HS, Marine Corps Air Station, New River, Jacksonville, North Carolina. His duties included being the Assistant Manager of the New River Exchange and the Assistant Manager of the Staff NCO Club on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
In April 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Huff was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant. In May 2016, Master Sergeant Huff received his Bachelors in Sports & Health Sciences from American Military University.
In June 2016, Master Sergeant Huff executed orders to H&S Battalion, Quantico, Virginia and served as the MCCS Quantico Business Operations Chief. As the Business Operations Chief, he also was the MCCS Liaison with all Commands as well as with the Base Commanding Officer and Sergeant Major. In this role Master Sergeant Huff acted as an MCCS Ambassador by speaking to all ranks at multiple venues. These included Troop Appreciations for Lance Corporal and Below, NCO PME’s for Corporals and Sergeants, presenting at the Commanders Update Brief to Senior Officers and Staff NCO’s, Base Welcome Aboard Briefs with military and civilian personnel, and at all MCCS New Employee Orientations.
Additionally Master Sergeant Huff assisted in multiple collaborations by being the conduit to connect different areas of MCCS with other areas. A focus on new events and new initiatives was garnered during this time so that MCCS gave back to the community in better/new ways to serve all our patrons and give them the best events to best utilize their time with participants provided. In his time at Quantico Master Sergeant Huff completed all PME requirements and started pursuing his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) (September 2018). During this period Master Sergeant Huff was also a volunteer Coach with MCCS Youth Sports for Soccer (3 seasons), Basketball (3 seasons), and Baseball (1 season).
In July 2019, Master Sergeant Huff executed orders to CLR-27, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. For his first six months he was tasked with continuing the remodeling of the Camp Lejeune Main Exchange working with store personnel, multiple other areas of MCCS, and the contractor until the holiday season started, pausing the remodel. Additionally, he was tasked with fixing the back of the store to make it more organized through the 5S process. While at Camp Lejeune he also continued as a volunteer Coach for MCCS Youth Sports for Soccer (3 seasons), Basketball (1 season due to COVID), and Baseball (2 seasons).
In February 2020, Master Sergeant Huff was moved up to Retail Operations Chief with a focus on all Exchanges and Marine Marts aboard Camp Lejeune and New River while concentrating on Indirect Operations and contracts. As supply lines grew strained, he was able to procure needed supplies from multiple vendors for COVID mitigation and cleaning. During this time, he also combed through multiple contracts finding discrepancies that were not favorable to MCCS or to the vendor.
In July 2020, Master Sergeant Huff assumed responsibilities as the OIC for six months due to an unforeseen medical retirement of the OIC. In this role he was responsible for more reporting of data to higher, overall performance evaluation input for Marines and civilian employees alike, and advisement of the Retail Director and his staff. While holding this position Master Sergeant Huff also finished earing his Masters Business Administration (MBA) in October 2020.
In June 2021, Master Sergeant Huff was promoted to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.
In March 2022, Master Gunnery Sergeant Huff executed orders to CLR-17, Camp Pendleton, California where he assumed the duties of Operations Chief for MCCS Camp Pendleton. In this role he oversaw the MCCS Marines, Area Coordinators, and was the MCCS liaison between, not only the 17 Area Commands on Base but, all Commands totaling over 80. Some of this took place by the conduction of MCCS Command Briefs with the Division Directors to give new Commanding Officers an overview of what MCCS can do.
Furthermore, as Operations Chief he resurrected the Arrive Alive Program by communicating with each Unit on Base increasing awareness and participation. His coordination across all the Divisions of MCCS also lead to Units better understanding what MCCS can do as well as improvements that may be coming to a Units area.
In September 2023, Master Gunnery Sergeant Huff executed PCS Orders and assumed his current role at MR MCCS as the Senior Enlisted Advisor and Occ Field Sponsor 4133.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 gold stars) and the Good Conduct (8th award).
