FAQs

How do I officially request co-location?

  • An official request is submitted via AA form with command endorsement. Complete packages for a co-location request include an AA form with supporting documentation (if applicable), a minimum of one command endorsement from the battalion/squadron (or equivalent) level leadership, and review by Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA).

Who can request Dual Military co-location?

  • Dual-military co-location applies to Active Duty (AD) and Active Reserve enlisted Marines and officers, including Marines whose spouses serve on active duty in another branch of service.

When is the earliest I can co-locate with my military spouse?

  • Co-location eligibility generally begins one year from the date of marriage and after one year time on station.

Are there any exceptions to the time frame policy?

  • Exceptions may be considered when a Marine is already scheduled to rotate at the 36‑month mark, or when medical conditions or pregnancy are involved.

What is the process to willingly separate from my spouse?

  • All co-location declinations require approval from the Director, Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA). To formally submit this request, each service member must submit an AA form with at least an O5‑level endorsement. The endorsed AA forms are emailed to the Dual-Mil Coordinator for routing to the Director, MM, for decision. Members who are legally separated or in the process of divorce are still required to submit a decline of co-location. A decline is no longer required once the divorce is finalized and the member is legally no longer married.

Keep in MIND!

You are only eligible to PCS to duty stations where you meet valid staffing requirements for your MOS and have sufficient service obligation to execute orders. The Dual-Mil Coordinator and assignment managers will exhaust all feasible options to co-locate you with your spouse while meeting service requirements. Co-location decisions remain subject to service needs and assignment availability and may not always result in joint assignment, even when all eligibility criteria are met.
