Inter-service transfers apply to Marines who are transitioning from the Marine Corps to another branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (e.g., Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard)
Intra-service transfers apply to Active Reserve (AR) Marines who are transferring to Active-Duty status within the Marine Corps.
When submitting an
Inter/Intra-Service Transfer (IST) request, the package must include the following documentation:
- Conditional Release Form (DD368)
- Commanding Officer Endorsement (O‑5 or O‑6)
- If the Service Member (SNM) is assigned to a G‑level command, the endorsement must be signed by the General Officer.
- Standard Naval Letter
- See Figure 3-1 in MCO 1900.16
Post Service Approval Action coordination is the responsibility of the Marine.
If you are accepted, a copy of your orders with the date of enlistment/commissioning must be sent to the Commandant of the Marine Corps (MMSR-2) organizational mailbox,
