A native of Staten Island, New York, Sergeant Major Turner enlisted in the Marine Corps in August 1998 and was assigned as a Basic Warehouseman Clerk. He has attended all required Marine Corps Resident Professional Military Education (PME) Courses, Drill Instructor School, Marine Security Guard School, Senior Enlisted Joint PME I & II, and Keystone.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Major Turner has been assigned numerous duties to include: Warehouse Clerk, Combat Service Support Group-3, 3d Force Service Support Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force; Staff Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, S-4 Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, Marine Wing Support Group 27, II Marine Air Wing, II Marine Expeditionary Force; Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor for Mike Company, Third Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island; Company Gunnery Sergeant, Supply Company, 1st Supply Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force; Marine Security Guard Detachment Commander, American Embassies Conakry, The Republic of Guinea and Islamabad, Pakistan, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group; First Sergeant, Truck Company and Communications Company, 3d Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force; First Sergeant, Marine Special Operations Company – Bravo, 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Special Operations Command. As a sergeant major, he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for First Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force; Director, Staff Noncommissioned Officers Academy, Okinawa, Japan; Command Senior Enlisted Leader for 3d Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, and currently serves as Sergeant Major, Manpower, Plans and Policy Division, Manpower and Reserves Affairs, Headquarters, United States Marine Corps.

Sergeant Major Turner’s deployments and operational experience includes: Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Pacific Eagle - Philippines (OPE-P), Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, and deployed in support of Southwest Border Mission.

Sergeant Major Turner’s personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Gold Stars, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three Gold Stars.
